By

Daniel R. Levinson, Inspector General

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) today released its Work Plan for the 2017 fiscal year.

The plan encompasses 84 pages and highlights new initiatives of focus as well as actions that are ongoing, completed, revised, or removed.

“This Work Plan summarizes new and ongoing reviews and activities that OIG plans to pursue with respect to HHS programs and operations during the current fiscal year and beyond,” the OIG said in its introduction.

“Specifically, this edition on of the Work Plan removes items that have been completed, postponed, or canceled, and includes new items that have been started since April 2016,” the introduction continued. “This Work Plan also indicates as ‘revised’ items where a substantial aspect of an ongoing review has changed since the April 2016 Work Plan Update.”

There are 24 new initiatives the OIG will pursue in 2017, ranging from provider reimbursement for hyperbaric oxygen therapy services to

Medicare payments for service dates after individuals’ dates of death.

An in-depth analysis of the OIG Work Plan will be reported by RACmonitor. In addition, RACmonitor will be conducting a webcast on the 2017 Work Plan on Tuesday, Nov. 15 with Andrew Wachler, Esq.
