Provider outreach is expected to take place today for the Arizona Hospital Association, according to a schedule of education outreach programs being conducted by the RACs that was posted last week by CMS on its Web site.

Today's two-hour event will take place at the Mayo Clinic in northeast Scottsdale, Ariz. from 2 to 4 p.m. Participating in the educational program will be HealthDataInsights (HDI), the RAC for Region D.

Just one week ago, on March 17, HDI conducted a similar program for hospitals and suppliers on behalf of the Utah Hospital Association- the first such round of education to take place since the work stay was lifted back in early February.

Then, last Friday, Christine Castelli of Connolly Healthcare, the RAC for Region C, conducted provider outreach for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). An in-depth interview with Diane Paschal, director of corporate compliance for SCHA, conducted by Dennis Jones, director of revenue cycle clinical support services with CBIZ KA Consulting Svcs., will be posted this Thursday on RACMonitor.com.

Meanwhile, according to CMS, the next stop on the Outreach Express will be this Friday, March 27, for hospital members of the South Florida Association, also in Region C.

Region A

Next, the Outreach Express will pull into New York for a two-day engagement with the Greater New York Hospital Association on Monday, March 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. and the Healthcare Association of New York State from 1 to 4 p.m. the next day. Conducting the outreach will be representatives from Diversified Collection Services (DCS) and CMS.

While still in the New York area, outreach education will take place again the following day, April 1, for the New York Medical Society. The event will be conducted as a conference call.

Region B

Pulling out of New York and heading west, the next stop will be Lansing, Mich. when the Outreach Express arrives on April 2 for a 1 p.m. session conducted by CGI Technologies and Solutions (CGI), the RAC for Region B, for the Michigan Hospital Association. But you can expect a return visit on April 10 if you're a member of the Michigan State Medical Society -this event, however, will be webcast, scheduled to air from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This will be the last stop for the Outreach Express in Michigan.

In between the two Michigan dates, the Outreach Express will pick up speed before making two stops in Minnesota. The first, being billed as the Minnesota VHA Webinar, will be conducted jointly by CMS and CGI from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 3. The second and final appearance will take place 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 7 at the Sheraton Minneapolis South.

In May, the Outreach Express will push further west to California, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota. But that's May - be prepared, because with mild weather in the forecast, the Outreach Express is expected to arrive on time to an association near you.

Has Your Facility Been RAC-Audited?

The RAC demonstration program that targeted hospitals during a three-year test ushered in a sea change for the U.S. healthcare system.

Much can be learned from the RAC Demonstration, and CMS hopes that providers will use the experience to help ensure that the claims they are submitting are correctly coded for services that meet the agency's coding and medical necessity policies. Learning from peers provides an excellent opportunity to gain important insights and practical, hands-on advice. Registered visitors to our Web site can share their experiences on the RAC Forum at racmonitor.com.
